creative process

​Simone creates functional, statement ceramic art from clay that is harvested in her immediate surrounding. Each unique piece is hand crafted without moulds, reflecting and celebrating the geological intricacies of the environment.

We discover natural clay pockets in our area and harvest the clay directly from the ground. Each find feels like a treasure hunt, as we encounter various types of clay.

The clay is brought back to the studio, where we use a "wet" process to prepare it for use.

Then the fun begins! We create and fire samples to determine the optimal firing temperature before starting the creative process.
